Mastering a single is its own thing. It’s not an album, it’s not an EP — it’s one song that has to hold up on its own, next to whatever else someone’s listening to that day. That could mean following a Billie Eilish track, a 2004 White Stripes mix, or a playlist full of algorithmic chaos.

The goal is simple: make it sound like it belongs there without losing what makes it yours. That usually means dialing in the right balance between clarity, punch, and restraint — keeping the master competitive but not crushed. Streaming platforms will do their thing anyway, so we master with that in mind.

We also know that this single might be part of an eventual album or EP. Knowing that ahead of time is really helpful — it lets us make choices so this song will sit well with a future set of tracks, maintaining tonal cohesion, consistent loudness, and overall flow.

Each single gets a custom master based on the actual mix, the style, and where it’s going — Spotify, Bandcamp, vinyl, or all of the above. We’ll reference against streaming targets (around −14 LUFS integrated, −1 dBTP) so the track plays back right no matter what the algorithm does to it.

There’s no magic preset for this. Just careful listening, smart EQ, and a chain that’s been tested across more playback systems than we’d like to admit. Email us to discuss getting started.
